Three Main Tips for Cost-saving in CNC Prototyping

Three Main Tips for Cost-saving in CNC Prototyping

Oct 25, 2021

Before having a product mass-produced, companies turn to manufacturers for a prototype. This serves as a model that allows designers and engineers to check for any flaws or defects. Doing this eliminates the risk of having thousands of bad products manufactured. For custom CNC prototyping, most manufacturers prefer CNC machining.

Below are three main tips to reduce CNC machining costs.
  • Material Selection
Each type of metal has its own unique characteristics, and the cost varies greatly. When making custom prototypes, the customer selects the appropriate material. If the customer does not know what material to use, the fabricator can make suggestions with what material to use as well.

In principle, the materials used will not affect customer requirements and results.

  • Machining
For creating prototypes, CNC machine and programming tool-paths are the two aspects that spend the most time and cost. A professional machining company has ways to make these more affordable.

  • Tolerances
Another cost driver has to do with tolerances. To save their customers money, the best prototype manufacturing companies suggest using standard tolerances rather than specialized ones.

At Etone Technology, our goal is to create superior quality prototypes that don’t cost customers a lot of money. To learn how we achieve this goal, please email us at [email protected]
